We arrived at the alpaca farm in time for a quick feeding of the alpacas before going on the barn tour. The feeding was fun for those who attempted this as these cuties can be quite feisty when it comes to food, or rather a treat, which this is for them. Some hissing at each other (the alpacas, not us girls), before delving back head first into the treat buckets.
The lady who took us on the barn tour has only been at the farm for a year but wow! - did she know her stuff... and all the alpacas by name.... and to us they mostly looked all the same, except for being different colours. We learnt how they, live, eat, sleep, mate, carry their babies (they are pregnant for a YEAR!), and that male alpacas are very interesting and LOUD when horny.
We met a baby alpaca (called a cria) named Siya... he was born on 2 November 20196... the day the Boks became the Rugby World Champions for the third time and named after our captain, Siay Kolisi.
We made our way back to the shop/cafe where we browsed some of the knits, some very expensive but oh so beautiful, and had lunch.
Note to self for future visits.... don't visit on a hot day..... this is Paarl area :-)
