For the October KKC I wanted to do something a little “outdoorsy”. Following recommendations from Janine and Lucy, the girls agreed that a boat trip at Intaka Island and a picnic lunch sounded like a nice idea.
Intaka Island is a nature conservation wetland in the heart of the Century City development. Intaka means bird in Xhosa and this habitat is home to 120 bird species and 212 species of indigenous plants. The Island offers self-guided trails, nature walks, bird watching and an environmental education centre (and more). The 40 minute boat trip along the canal offers a “hop on hop off” feature at Canal Walk. Visit www.intaka.co.za for more information.
Our visit coincided with the Century City Natural Goods Market which was on at Central Park across from Intaka Island. The market falls on the last Sunday of every month from 09h00 – 14h00 and offers something for everyone: clothing, jewellery, kiddie’s toys, a jumping castle, an assortment of delicious food and live music.
A new addition to the market “Art on the Island” was introduced to showcase a range of local artists and their work – in the Eco-Centre on Intaka Island.

So, our day started off with a quick visit to the artists hosted at the Eco-Centre and a super fast wine tasting. Then we proceeded to the jetty to take a leisurely boat ride along the canal. The surroundings are beautiful and we got a sneak peak into “how the other side lives” when we viewed all the houses and apartments on the canal edge. The guides were very friendly and quite efficient photographers. We decided to have our picnic at the market and after strolling through all the stalls, we managed to find a table in the shade and enjoyed our food. Peyton thoroughly enjoyed the jumping castle and her ice cream. A very relaxing afternoon... And we can recommend visiting these sites in future.

Boutique and Tea - September 2013

What:  Lingerie Boutique, cake and pizza
When:  5th October 2013
Where:  Burgundy Estate
Cost:  What you bought or ordered to eat
Patrons Present:  Lucy, Vannessa, Carol, Vicky, Nadine, Amie, Fiona and Ana-Rita
Organised by:  Fiona

September KKC was held on 5 October 2013, around 1pm at Burgundy Estate, at the Checkers shopping center. Some of us me at Love Cake Cafe for some beverages, while others met two doors down at Bare Sensuals, a lingerie shop, for some pampering essentials. We had a very good experience at the lingerie shop, as the owner did a proper fitting of bra's and advised on what worked and what not. Will be going back for some more shopping. The shop has all sorts of fancy stuff from body stockings, fancy underwear, to sexy nighties, corsets, etc. I think hubbies should accompany the ladies next time around :-)
While the second group browsed the Bare Sensuals shop, the first group had some sweet/savoury treats at Love Cake Cafe. We then moved the party to the Bunker Bar further up in Burgundy Estate, at the Mashie course, for a light lunch and some cocktails. Unfortunately the cocktails consisted of a choice of three, but was good value for money nonetheless. Fair to say, I think we all have some memories to take away with us..

Knitting - August 2013

What:  Knitting Christmas stockings
When:  August 2013
Where:  Carol's house
Cost:  R30 per person
Patrons Present:  Lucy, Clarissa, Carol, Amie, Kerry, Janine, Nadine, Ana-Rita, and Fiona popped in.
Organised by:  Nadine

For August KKC I decided we needed to do a craft so I got the ladies together to knit a mini Christmas stocking to use as a decoration for their Christmas trees this year.

I made up packs for everyone with knitting needles, wool, the pattern (very important) and even a row counter.

Carol let us use her house for the afternoon.

It was an amazing day full of fun and fellowship over pairs of knitting needles. The ladies excelled and knitted the most beautiful stockings.

For some, who were out of practice, it took a while to get used to the needles but once they got going there was not stopping them. I am so proud of all of them.

This KKC has led to another project – knitting Christmas stockings for Santa for Seniors gifts.  Only 200 to knit but we’re motivated to make the target.

Thanks to everyone for making it a great afternoon and to all who attended – KEEP KNITTING!

July - Tea

For our June KKC we once again decided to revisit the idea of doing a craft as opposed to going on an “outing”.  We had a couple of choices but the one we selected was beaded jewellery with Lynne, owner of Design by Lynne.  9 of us gathered together in Lynne’s studio in Eversdal to learn new techniques in beading, and whilst some chose fairly simple options others were very brave and decided to opt for items and techniques that proved to be rather challenging.  With snacks and cocktails flowing, the 3 hours that we spent beading seemed to fly by.  All in all we had a fantastic time and came away with some beautiful pieces of jewellery.  A very big thank you to Lynne for sharing her knowledge with us and for being exceptionally patient.  To see some of Lynne’s designs or to find out how you can go about buying one of her unique pieces of jewellery:  https://www.facebook.com/DesignsXLynne

Dinner and Theatre Sports - March & April 2013

Where:  Cape Town near the Labia
Cost: R100 burger, R60 Theatre
Organised by: Lucy and Kerry
Patrons present: Lucy,  Kerry,  Janine,  Clarissa, Carol, Linda, Vicky, Nadine, and Fiona

Royale Eatery – Long St, Cape Town
A funky little eatery specialising in gourmet burgers and shakes.  As we were having dinner early, we sat downstairs in the more casual part of the diner.  The menu is extensive and  is presented in a little hard covered, aged-looking book – very quaint.  It was quite a difficult choice, due to the amount of variations – however I think it was unanimous, that the burgers are damn fine.  I had a Gogglymooly, which is a vegetarian burger of soya, chickpeas, pumpkin seeds with guacamole and hummus, without the bun (my choice), with a mix of sweet potato and potato chips.  Absolutely divine.  There is also a massive choice of milkshakes – I decided on a coconut and chocolate and Janine’s was an avo and mint.  They are superthick and more easily consumed with a spoon than a straw.  Maybe the pricing is slightly on the elevated side, but the service and taste make up for it.

We then went around the corner to the Intimate Theatre just off Orange Street to watch Theatre Sports.  Theatre Sports is akin to Whose Line is it Anyway, where nothing is rehearsed and the entertainment is ‘off the cuff’.  The show was excellent with lots of laughs.

On the whole, the evening was incredible, with good conversation, plenty of laughs and advice.  Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Body basics is a mobile massage company, looking after corporate and individual wellness through massage.  They have a clinic in Rugby but mostly operate at the client's premises. Liesel can be contacted on their website: www.bodybasicssa.co.za .

At our pamper party we could choose whether we wanted a massage, manicure, pedicure or facial.  Liesel and Janice were extremely professional and set up their portable beds in the bedrooms.  One by one we all had our preferred treatments, which lasted between 20 to 30 minutes.  The ladies all enjoyed their treatments with someone.... Vicky having an extra treatment (lucky her).  I thoroughly enjoyed my therapeutic massage from Janice.  I would highly recommend Body Basics and their pamper parties to anyone who wants to have a relaxing and care-free party at home.

Also thank you to Fiona and Clarissa for popping in for some Champagne punch, snacks and socialising.

Whet Pleasure-ware party (www.whet.co.za) for October.  But I would prefer not to limit it to just KKC girls, the more the merrier.  I can still make it a KKC event though if y’all are ok with that.  I will just go with the date that suits the most KKC gals and the rest must fit in.
