Bowling - July 2011

Perfect form ladies
For July KKC, I wanted to do something outdoors. The idea of learning to play bowls took root and I coersed a friend to teach us. On the Saturday morning we all gathered at Milnerton Bowling Club and after a good cup of coffee and a kit kat (or two), Maureen and Jennifer taught us about the ettiquette on the bowling green. We then went onto the bowling green to learn how to bowl properly. We found out that the woods (the correct name for the bowls) are not all the same size and weight. Some are heavier than others. We learnt the proper way to stand and roll the wood. We also learnt about getting your weight right to get the wood up to the kitty (Lucy had some special lessons from Graham).
When we were ready, we played a game against each other. Well done to Lucy and Carol who won!
Afterwards we went into the bar to relax and recover and caused our usual havoc!!!
Thanks to Milnerton Bowling Club - we had great fun!!!

Chocolate Workshop - May/June 2011

What: Chocolate truffles, mousse-filled cups, chocolate piping & Nutella cups

When: 11 June 2011 (11:00 to 13:00)

Where: Mother City Cakery at 20 Rosendal Street, Bothasig

Cost: R100 for the workshop & R40 for chocolate disks

Patrons Present: Janine, Lucy, Nadine, Vannessa, Amie, Clarissa, Amor, Charnel, Megan, Carol

Organised by: Carol

Firstly thanks to Lucy who found this KKC option on Gumtree. Beryl Visagie at www.mothercitycakery.co.za not only creates beautiful cakes but also offers a workshop for beginners in chocolate work. Once you know how to fold a wax cone, piping decorations can be a lot of fun but it takes lots of practice – ask all those ladies that were licking the chocolate off their fingers. There is nothing like a creatively placed swirl, curl, butterfly, heart or drizzle of chocolate to elevate an everyday dessert to gourmet status. We made chocolate cups using plastic moulds and paintbrushes. Once set we filled them with chocolate mousse or Nutella. Our chocolate piping added an impressive finishing touch to the mousse and a drizzle of chocolate added a nice flair to the Nutella cups. Making the chocolate truffles was easy and can be done with simple ingredients. It was quite messy on the hands but the end result was scrumptious. We dipped the truffles into the melted chocolate with a bent fork – don’t use your best cutlery for this….. We took our masterpieces home in beautifully decorated boxes.

Movies and Champagne - April 2011

What: Movies and Champagne

When: April

Where: JC le Roux wine farm

Cost: R80

Patrons Present: Lucy, Carol, Amie, Vicky

Organised By: Vicky

On a stunning Sunday morning in late summer Lucy, Amie, Carol and Vicky enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet at J.C. le Roux as part of their ‘Sunday Films’ special offer. After an interesting off-roading experience due to a slightly misguided satnav we ended up at the wine farm. Over a glass of bubbly and a delicious breakfast we took in the beautiful setting and scenery. The mini cinema where they showed the film was lovely too (Notting Hill – “I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her” Never gets old....). Hope they do more of these events. For info, they were doing a champagne and nougat tasting so may be worth looking into this in future.

Cake decorating - March 2011

HAVE A BREAK HAVE A KITKAT
What: Cake decorating
When: March 2011
Where: Lucy's house
Cost: R60
Patrons present: Fiona, Linda, Lucy, Nadine, Vicky, Vannessa, Ana-Rita, Amie, Kerry, Amber, Janine, Clarissa
Organised by: Clarissa

A fun evening was had by the girls attempting to make fondant icing decorations. Poor Clarissa did not stand much of a chance trying to make herself heard over the din but still managed to gain some control and taught us all something. What emerged from the evening was a large number of frightfully professional looking decorations (some more so than others) and some rather delectable looking cupcakes. And of course we learned that it is not wise to lick either one's fingers or the colouring bottle when colouring our fondant. Thanks to Clarissa for her patience and for teaching us all something new.
First KKC where we had such a great attendance 11 out of 12 girls, nice going Clarissa.
And this is what happens when you taste the mixture before it sets, think it is Avatar 2 :-)

Fun was had by all, thanks Clarissa.

Astrology Talk by Laura Selena Bradfield

28 February 2011

http://laurabradfieldaroma.co.za/img/author.jpg

We are living in a time when the universe is requiring that we become more conscious.

How do we do that?

Rather then waiting for something in your life to happen which throws everything up into the air

we can take steps to become more conscious and live meaningfully now.

Astrology can help us prepare for planetary shifts in consciousness

and conceptualize the themes for the next few months ahead.

Astrology can also be used to understand the meaning of events in your life.

Laura will first introduce you to astrology and explain why and how it is used.

There are very important transits that are occurring over the next 3 months

she will talk about their meaning, some warnings and discuss ways in which you can align yourself for a smoother journey.

The end of the talk we will have a short Q and A session which I welcome you all to take part in!

Laura is look forward to meeting you all!

See you there

Laura studied Astrology through Rod R. Suskins’ School of Astrology, graduating from the 3 year Astrology course with a diploma.

She also hold a diploma in Aromatherapy and Reflexology through the Cape Institute of Allied health studies.

She teaches Aromatherapy and Reflexology to the blind on a part time basis and run my private practice in Durbaville.

She also offer astrology readings via Skype. I have 7 years experience as an Aromatherapist and Reflexologist and 6 years experience in the field of astrology.

Carbon Nation - January 2011

What: Theatre and dinner
When: January 2011
Where: Labia Theatre
Cost: R40 Theatre and then cost of dinner
Patrons Present: Lucy, Nadine, Amie, Janine, Kerry
Organised by: Kerry

Carbon Nation - a quirky, easy to understand documentary about taking some easy steps to help make the planet less toxic, using available natural resources. The stats, the humour and the general layout of the documentary was surprisingly far more interesting and entertaining than we might have originally anticipated.
So, after walking into the wrong movie.......and then having to move quickly to the correct theatre - duh!!!!.........we managed to find a seat, and a surprised Janine was shocked to realise that we were coming to watch a documentary........not a movie! A question and answer session at the end with the director of the movie, was very interactive and informative.
We then moved over to Asian Kitchen for dinner. The very smily owner found us a table, although they seemed to be fully booked initially. The food was reasonably priced, and very, very good. Jesse, the bartender captured Janine's attention and was happy to pose for photos with us.
All in all - a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Cutest Bartender ;-)
Here fishy, sushi time

Cocktails - December 2010

What: Cocktails
When: 30th December 2010
Where: Ritchie's Panarama
Cost: From R30 for cocktails and then whatever food was eaten
Patrons Present: Amie, Nadine , Fiona, Ana-Rita, Janine, Lucy, Clarissa and Fiona's mom
Organised by: Lucy

Cocktails … however, we since learnt that Ritchie’s is not a good option for Cocktails as even with their limited selection they weren’t able to make what was on their menu. Also – Ritchie’s were not very accommodating re substitute shooters as Janine found out.
We also learnt that it is still worthwhile to have a December KKC even though people were not initially interested, we had a good turn out! Happy new year to all of you….

Cake and Tea - November 2010

Ana Rita organised for Nia, but due to unforeseen circumstances, this had to be cancelled, but the girls did go out for cake and tea.

Thanks Ana-Rita, we look forward to this in 2011
