Fondu and Crafty things - August 2016

August KKC was a Fondu and Crafts get together.  We started the session with champagne (what else?), while we unpacked and set-up our scrapbooking, cards and crocheting paraphernalia.  Thanks Clarissa for popping in for some champers and socialising but unfortunately she had to leave before the fondu started.

We had quite the spread for our Fondu luncheon.  There were 2 hot oil communal pots and a melted creamy cheese pot.  We also had a melted chocolate pot for dessert.  We each had 3 long-stemmed forks to cook the meat in the hot oil.  We could choose from meatballs, steak pieces, vienna's, chicken pieces, french loaf etc.  There was peppers, carrots, tomatoes and mini corns to dip in the cheese pot.  Fiona decided to make croutons with her french bread and dipped them in the cheese.  That was really yummy and Prof Tim Noakes would not approve!! For dessert we dipped strawberries, marshmallows and bananas into the melted chocolate.  So delicious........

With full tummies we tackled our scrapbooking layouts and chatted up a storm.  Fiona crocheted her blocks for her Anja comfort blanket organisation.  A few times her balls of wool had to be rescued from the demon dog but it was a productive day for all.  It was decided to create a Craft Whatsapp group so that we could all get together once a month to do something crafty.  I also think we should have another FONDU.  It was fun!!!

Rococoa Chocolate Appreciation - July 2016

1. Standard Tour:

At Rococoa guests will be welcomed with a wafer cone and liquid chocolate, then taken on a tour through an imitation cocoa plantation and a 17th century chocolate factory.  Afterwards they will tour through the chocolate studio and they can get creative with some chocolate play dough, which they can eat or take home with them.  Finally guests will be able to view a 20 minute educational movie on chocolate.

We arrived at The Palms on Saturday morning and found the Vintage Market was on the go.  Some bought tasty nibbles then we proceeded to Rococoa where we were met by Gabi, the resident chocolatier.  She took us through a detailed lecture of the process involved in getting chocolate as we know it, from the plantation to the processing of their cocoa fruit and then the way it was processed in an old kitchen with metal chocolate moulds.
We then proceeded to the kitchen where we tasted a commercial chocolate, an artisan chocolate and imported Belgian chocolate buttons.  This was followed up with a mini sugar cone filled with liquid chocolate either dairy milk or dark chocolate.  This was the highlight of the day.  We had some lunch which included French toast with bacon and banana and chocolate sauce, an omelette, bacon and avo wrap and flapjacks.  A good time was had by all.

On Saturday 28 June the KKC girls joined together for an afternoon of crafting, snacking and chatting - with a little bubbly of course!  Whilst lost of snacking and chatting took place, some beautiful crafts emerged in the form of scrapbooked photographs, greeting cards, knitted beanies and digital photobooks started.  The afternoon gave us time to let our hair down and get stuck into crafts that we'd been wanting to do but hadn't quite gotten around to.  Even baby Grace did some artwork.  The gorgeous girls who took part were, Carol and Fiona (our two resident paper craft gurus!), Nadine, Vannessa, Rita, Janine, Ana-Rita, Lucy, Clarissa,.,,, and later on in the day we were joined by Amie and Kerry - we missed you Linda.

Durbanville 5km charity run - April 2016

KKC for April 2016 was aimed a getting us all to move, move it!  Durbanville Children's Home had a charity fun run at Klein Roosblom farm in Durbanville.

The morning was chilly and crisp, but upon arrival at the farm, the warm enthusiasm of the crowd, organisers, and the pumping music, soon warmed everyone up.  It was a good turnout for charity.

The countdown began and we all shot off like rockets.............. well rockets in slow motion..... ha ha. The first bit of the course was a slight incline and the crowd was thick, so it made it difficult to pass.  The terrain then flattened out and then.............a steep gradient that saw many of the folk huffing and puffing, getting slower and slower towards the top - but the view, was magnificent and took our breath away.  The course was through the vineyards and it was undulating in various degrees throughout.  It was probably one of the toughest 5km courses that I have had the pleasure of doing, but through all the sweat and early morning rays peeping over the Durbanville Hills - IT WAS A BLAST!  Amie came through too in very good time - we are soooooooo proud of you!!!

There was a lucky draw after the race, Janine had a winning ticket and received a toaster.  We all popped through to the restaurant on the Estate, Cafe Ruby, for brekkie.  A pleasant atmosphere, good service and a tasty breakfast, brought to an end, superb and exhilarating start to our Sunday.

Stellenbosch Markets - Feb/March 2016

Our event for this month's KKC was to visit the markets in Stellenbosch.  We chose Blaauwklippen Sunday Market and Route 44.
Great variety of foods and stalls at both markets.  Blaauwklippen was celebrating St Patricks day and there was a band that played some vibey Irish music.  Irish Wolfhounds were on display (reallllly bigggggg dogs).  Many of the stallholders were dressed in green as well.
We walked around the stalls, tasted the food, bought goodies and just enjoyed the whole vibe.  Loads of activities for the kids as well.  Some were definitely there for the day with their picnic blankets and baskets, wine.  Chilled day out.  After the Blaauwklippen Sunday Market, we visited the market just next door - Route 44.
